Send a veterinarian to Augusta
I learned the value of hard work waking up at 4am to help my dad milk the cows before I went to school. Both my parents worked outside the farm as well. Dad was a school teacher and mom worked as an administrative assistant (and later as a certified financial planner). We worked together on the dairy farm, from cutting wood to planting our garden. I also pushed myself in school and sports where I tried to fit into the community.
Becoming a mixed animal veterinarian allowed me to combine my interest in animals, community and raising my family on a small farm in Fairfield. My wife and I raised our four daughters in a similar environment to what I had growing up on a dairy farm. I encouraged them to work hard at school and get involved in sports and community.
Professionally, I was a board member and president of the Humane Society Waterville Area, President of the Maine and New England Veterinary Medical Association as well as a member of the Maine Board of Veterinary Medicine. Additionally, I started two veterinary clinics so I understand the process of starting and running a small business.
As a community member I have served Fairfield as a council member and I am currently the council chair. I have effectively worked to protect vital services without unnecessary tax hikes. I want to serve in Augusta to strengthen our local economy and create more opportunities for working families.
As a small business owner I know how important it is to keep costs down while meeting the needs of customers. Serving in the State House is no different. I will work to save taxpayers money by streamlining government services and improving delivery, just like I did on the Fairfield Town Council.
Through my work as a veterinarian, I am proud of my service to my employees, my community and profession. I have seen first-hand how important it is to provide training and jobs to keep good people living and working in this community.
Through my veterinarian work and working with animals in the farming community I have learned about how difficult it is to come up with a long-term solution to PFAs contamination. In Augusta I want to fight for policies that will provide solutions for farms and families directly impacted by contamination.
One of my frustrations with grandstanding and legislative inaction is standing in the way of passing laws that will address the affordable housing crisis. An important piece of strengthening our local economy is securing safe and affordable housing for working families.
